Ready To Create A Mad Hatter Costume?
Ready to be as “mad as a hatter” for the Halloween festivities? Want a few tips on making a Mad Hatter costume that will let that “mad” side of your personality shine through? With just a little bit of creativity mixed with just a tiny bit of patience, you can create a Hatter costume that surely will be quite memorable.
Now this brief article will lean more towards the type of costume that one would consider traditional and not so much the Johnny Depp version of the hit Tim Burton movie that was such a smashing success in 2010. Or maybe you could combine elements of both to really make a unique costume that suits just you! After all, you really are quite mad!
The simplest way to go about putting your Mad Hatter costume together is to start rummaging through the old clothes that you have. They need not match and the more colorful the better. All you really need is a brightly colored pair of pants, a white shirt and a knee length overcoat. If you don’t have anything stuffed away in your house, a trip to a few of the neighborhood thrift stores should be sufficient. You may also want to stop by a craft store and grab some fabric paint and fabric remnants to do some embellishments to your costume. There really is no set rule here and the more eclectic the better.
The remnants should be brightly colored and be sure to look for a piece that is big enough to fashion in a bow. After all, the Mad Hatter as illustrated in the Lewis Carroll book is always shown wearing a very big bow-tie, so your costume wouldn’t be complete without one, right?
The last piece to make your eccentric costume complete is naturally the hat. Since the Hatter is usually shown with an oversized top hat, you’ll want to find one that is quite large but still fits your head comfortably. You can customize your hat in whatever way you choose and really let your creative juices flow. Some quick and nifty ideas are using your fabric paint to add color or covering the entire hat in lace. Use a fabric remnant to make the hat band and then cut some poster board to make sure you have the famous 10/6 card stuck in the band. Again, there really isn’t any set form here after all, you’re the Hatter!
To top of your Mad Hatter Halloween Costume, or rather to finish it on the bottom, try to find some brightly striped socks and a old pair of dark shoes. Voila! You are now ready to just step out in style and enjoy the evenings festivities.
